Quietest DJI Drone
We just went in the backyard today and tested every DJI drone plus the Parrot ANAFI to see which is the quietest, which is the loudest and where they land in between.
Experiment : Quietest DJI Drone 2019
We had a landing pad where we had each drone and a decibel meter on a tripod.
The tripod was untouched during the experiment. Also the decibel meter was kept at the same angle and same position.
The landing pad was used as our place to show us where the drone should stay so that it doesn’t drift it all.
We tried to keep each drone, right in the center and then flew it up to where it is just about slightly higher than the decibel meter. The decibel meters was aimed up just slightly so it was just maybe about 3 or 4 inches above where the decibel meter was.
All the drones tested were brought to the same position. The reading taken for a good 10 to 15 seconds and averaged out.
Now lets come to the results and find out the quietest DJI drone. What we did is we went back and we actually looked at the footage of the decibel meter and just kind of tried to pick out what the average was of the numbers that were bouncing around.
We know it’s not super scientific but we did watch and take a pretty long sample on each one. We were able to kind of narrow down to what the reading was on average over that period of time.
They were all flying at about the same location at about the same height so this is a pretty even test and will give you a good idea at least in broad strokes of which is the loudest and which is the quietest.
|Drone Name||Drone Noise (dB)||Remarks|
|Phantom 4 Pro||90||Loudest|
|Mavic Pro||84||Second Loudest|
|Mavic Air||78||Fourth Loudest|
|Mavic Pro Platinum||77||Fifth Loudest|
|Mavic 2||76||Quietest DJI Drone|
|Parrot ANAFI||72||Quietest Overall|
So as you probably guessed the loudest was the DJI Phantom 4 Pro it came in at 90 decibels and it was also the most drifty of all of them. I haven’t flown it in a while it wasn’t windy or anything but I just think it was it was just having a hard time staying in one location right. At first until it locked on satellites which took a little longer once it did it was pretty good and we got a good reading at 90 decibels.
Second was the original Mavic Pro with the original maverick Pro propellers that came in at 84 decibels. So quite a bit quieter than the Phantom 4 Pro. You know it was about what you’d expect the Maverick Pro to sound like.
Next was the DJI Spark which actually came in at 81 decibels. Now the spark does not have the wingtip propellers like the newer newer ones have. It has the regular straight propellers that fold in but it was 81 dB so not bad. Not bad at all on the spark in terms of the sound.
Next was the DJI Mavic Air which came in at 78 decibels. Its surprising because the common though is that the Mavic air would be louder than the Spark but actually it’s a little bit quieter according to this test.
Next was the Mavic Pro Platinum which came in at 77 decibels so pretty significantly quieter.
After this was the DJI Mavic 2 which can very close 76 decibels very close to the Mavic Pro platinum but just a tiny bit quieter.
Finally if you want a quiet drone, the Parrot ANAFI is the one for you. It came in at 72 decibels.
Conclusion: Which DJI Drone is the Quietest Drone?
So there you go, this is the descending order of the decibel values.
Phantom 4 Pro > Mavic Pro > Spark > Mavic Air > Mavic Pro Platinum > Mavic 2 > Parrot ANAFI
Ultimately as you can see, the Mavic 2 is the quietest DJI Drone.
